PIQ (Patient Identification
and Qualification)
PIQ, or Patient Identification and Qualification
for VNS Therapy™, is a proprietary process by which appropriate
patient candidates may be identified by a clinician. The PIQ is
a brief one-page form that is completed by a clinician with their
patients consent and then faxed to Cyberonics, Inc. Within 48 hours,
the clinician will know:
1. Long-term seizure control and quality-of-life
outcomes for patients in the Registry that are similar to the
clinician’s identified patients.
2. How the patient can access VNS Therapy through their insurance,
including billing codes.
By using the PIQ process, the Registry data are
available to clinicians, providing insight as to how similar patients
have responded to VNS Therapy, thereby enabling the physician and
the patient to make well-informed treatment decisions.
